Watch Unto Prayer

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s Prayer Meeting night for the church.
So for this post, I want to thank God for Prayer.
There’s a lot to be said about Prayer. Generally, it is our way of communicating with God. It could be in a way of supplication to Him or it could be as a thanksgiving for all His blessings to us. It is free. And yet, most of the time we tend to take it for granted.

I, for one, tend to slack of in my prayer life. Which is a totally shame. Since as a Christian, I should be praying fervently and unceasingly to Him with all my heart all the time. But being a human, and poor example at that, my mind get distracted so easily by material things that I, most of the time, forget to give thanks back to Him who gives all things.

It is a shame, indeed. Sometimes, we only come to Him in prayer when we badly want something. When we carry a heavy burden and we want an immediate solution to our problems, we come to Him, as if He could magically give us the answer right before our eyes.

And then, if it’s not answered immediately, or our supplication wasn’t granted as soon as we request it, we curse God and even wonder if there is a God at all.

As I am writing this, I am realizing how poor I am at this area of my spiritual life. I cry to God when I am sad, but when I am happy and ecstatic about something, I push my prayer aside for later, and eventually forget about it even as I lay my head on the pillow at night.

I thank God for prayer now, since without it, I don’t know of any other way we could ask God for His help in our life. And not only that, I don’t know of any other direct way for us to thank Him for all the blessings He grants our way.

It is so easy to go on in life ignoring the fact that I owe even my single breath to Him who gives life to all. So it is my prayer now, not only to myself but also to my dear friends and loved ones that we learn how to be sober and watch unto prayer.
